Following the standards and professional ethics of AIIC our interpreters translate only into their A and B languages. Before looking at an interpeter’s qualifications read carefully the following definitions:
Language Combination: these are the languages that conference interpreters uses in their work. The languages are subdivided into “active” languages and “passive” languages and are defined as “A”, “B” (active) or “C” (passive).
«A» Language: Mother-tongue or equivalent.
«B» Language: A language which the interpreter masters completely, without it being his/her mother tongue.
«C» Language: A language the interpreter has full understanding of and from which he/she translates into his/her “A” and “B” languages.
